David Michaux, trumpet

Born and raised in Victoria, David has been Second Trumpet with the Victoria Symphony since 2001. Previous to this position, he was Principal Trumpet with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra for two seasons and Acting Principal Trumpet with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra for one season. During the 2004-2005 season, David was an acting member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. David studied at the University of British Columbia (M. Mus.) and the University of Victoria (B. Mus.) and is an alumni of the Aspen Music Festival and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. David is currently on the faculty of the Victoria Conservatory of Music.

Stevan Paranosic, trumpet

Stevan Paranosic has performed as Acting Second Trumpet with the Victoria Symphony, and was formerly Principal Trumpet of the Vancouver Island Symphony in Nanaimo, BC. He has also performed with the Vancouver, Prince George, and Okanagan Symphony Orchestras.

Stevan holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Windsor and a Masters degree from the University of British Columbia.

Dan Moses, horn

Dan was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Oakville, Ontario. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from McGill University in 1990, and then held the position of Principal Horn of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra in St. John's for three seasons. A member of the Victoria Symphony since 2000, Dan also plays horn in Victoria’s Palm Court Light Orchestra, and teaches privately, in addition to his work with the Beacon Hill Brass.

Dan has been a Primary Reservist with the Canadian Forces since 1986 and is currently the Band Sergeant-Major of the only Reserve Band on Vancouver Island, the 5th (British Columbia) Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery Band. His principal teachers include John Vanderspek, Harcus Hennigar, James MacDonald, Jean Gaudreault and John Milner. Highlight of his career so far? Playing Mahler Symphony #1 at Carnegie Hall with the McGill Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Timothy Vernon in 1988.

Brad Howland, trombone/euphonium

Brad Howland holds the Principal Trombone chair of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, and has performed in the past with the Vancouver Symphony, the CBC Vancouver Symphony, the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, the Palm Court Orchestra, and the new music group Aventa Ensemble. Brad is a member of the Pacific Trombone Quartet and Trombones To Go, and appears frequently in recitals and concerts in and around Victoria.

Brad is on the faculty of the Comox Valley Youth Music Centre (CYMC), and is a member of the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN).

Paul Beauchesne, tuba

A Yamaha Performing Artist and Clinician, Paul Beauchesne is currently Principal Tuba with the Victoria Symphony. Born in Montreal and raised on Canada’s west coast, he studied at the University of Victoria, the Banff Centre, and the University of New Mexico.

A long time member of the Foothills Brass Quintet in Calgary, Alberta, Mr. Beauchesne spent two years as principal tuba of the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, South Africa, also performing there with KZN Brass Quintet and Dixie Band, Baroque 2000 and the Bloemfontain Symphony. He has performed with the Boston Symphony, Sante Fe Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, Calgary Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Vancouver Ballet Orchestra Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra as well the NADEN Band, Calgary Jazz Festival Orchestra, the Wild Rose Jazz All Stars and the Band of the Ceremonial Guard.
